I just got a call from Jen - they got some positive news this evening.
They brought Chase out of sedation to see if they could get any movement responses. Jen said he was thrashing around and doing purposeful movements. He reached up for his face, frustratedly squeezed his hand. He was being asked to open his eyes, and he looked like he was trying really hard, and did succeed in opening them a slit, but got really frustrated and confused.
Jen also said Chase squeezed her hand today - which was very reassuring for her.
When he got confused and anxious, they brought him back under sedation to allow his brain to continue to heal. Pray that his brain would continue to heal and do whatever it needs to do to allow him to wake up.
Also, Chase is no longer on maximum life support - he is on moderate. He is breathing on his own almost all the way. They need to keep it on him due to the sedation - but he is doing well with his breathing on his own which is a positive sign as well.
His pupils look good, and there are no signs of additional swelling in his brain which is really good.
Jen said over and over how appreciative she was of everybody's prayers, and support. She has felt all the support today, and she and Justin feel carried by our prayers.
Pray for a restful night tonight for Jen & Justin at the hospital, and that Chase's brain would continue to heal. That all the bleeding would stop completely, and that he would wake up when his brain is ready.
Justin & Jen, my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine what you are thinking or feeling right now. Please know that we will be fasting and praying for Chase and your family. May the Holy Ghost bring peace and comforft to your heart, your mind and your soul. His life is in God's hands. Luv Deon

Good Job Chase, keep resting and continue to improve. A lot of people love you, are thinking about you, praying for you, and sending you positive thoughts. Your mom, dad, sisters, family and friends are staying strong for you, and with you. We're all here for you. Get better and come back to us real soon. Sending love and good wishes. Sweet dreams to you while you are getting better.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to hear he is already responding and can breathe on his own. He hears all of what you are saying. Crystal loved American Idol and we had it on that whole season for her. She remembered the winner even though she was in a coma or semi comatose during most of the season and couldn't talk. Chase is pulling for himself and your family, good job! We are all praying and fasting for all of you guys. Stay strong, though a good cry now and then is ok too. God bless and keep you through this difficult time. The Duerden Family
ReplyDeleteFoothill Elementary is praying for Chase's quick recovery. Please know our thoughts are with you and Chase at this time. We miss him around here already and looked forward to his speedy return. Please let us know how we can help!
ReplyDeleteLove your friends at Foothill.
Hi Jen Justin and all the Hunzeker family,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jon Bennion's sister. I just wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. There is nothing worse than watching your child suffer. I am so glad to hear that there are signs of improvement. I hope he recovers quickly and will soon be able to wake up. You are a wonderful strong family, and I know that your faith in God and love for one another will see you through this trial. We will keep checking up to see how he is doing. Hang in there!
