Update #46

BIG NEWS!!

Chase got his discharge date: March 15th. Exactly 2 months to the day of his accident. We are so excited and blessed that we get to bring him home. Our pass Sunday was AMAZING!!!! I was sad to come back to the hospital - we had chase almost all of Sunday at home and when we left to go back to the hospital it was bittersweet. I knew that chase's team was meeting today to discuss a discharge day and I trusted the date that they would set.

When I found out the date and that the decision was unanimous from all teams (therapists, doctors, etc). When I found out, I felt good about it and I mentioned to the dr "two months to the day!" and she said "that's right! We didn't realize that!" pretty cool.

Chase's language is exploding. He has been doing math problems and writing numbers and letters with his right hand! The education specialist met with me today to discuss his transition from here to home ... We have a countdown and I need prayers for these final TWO WEEKS so that he can get the most care and progress over these next 2 weeks. He looks amazing and I am so very proud of him.

Thank you sooo much for all the love, prayers and support. It's so inspired that my amazing sister jess set up the meal schedule until the 21st!! Because I will get to enjoy some too!! Thank you all for participating!!! I am grateful - so grateful - that I haven't had to stress about that (or justin hasn't) ;-)

Today is a good day - chase's final goals are walking and conversational speech!!! PRAYERS!!!

Also, a precious friend of chase's, Gracie Hinds, left the hospital today and is only 4 days older than chase. She has been here much longer than chase and is a beautiful, amazing little girl. Her mom, Mindy, has become a friend of mine and I just ask that you keep precious Gracie in your prayers as well. We love and miss you Gracie bug!!!

These precious children here at the hospital are ANGELS and I have such a new found respect for children. They are resilient and so much more Christ like than most adults I know... Chase just laughs and has an amazing attitude. I'm continually amazed by chase and his progress. The team here is astonished by him.

I was reading the news today about the shooting in Ohio. I read about the little boy - a quiet freshman who liked auto motives - was shot in the head and declared brain dead early this morning. I hit my knees and prayed for that family; and I gave thanks for my miracle of a son. I can't imagine the grief, pain and sorrow that mommy is feeling right now.

Life is so so precious - every moment a gift, a miracle. I will NEVER take another moment for granted. I will never, ever be the same. Thank you Chase. Can't wait to have you home son.

Slow and steady,

Jen

  3. All I can say... Jen you have always been and continue to be one of the most amazing women I have ever known! You inspire me and uplift me! One day Chase will look back and read this blog and a feeling of overwhelming unconditional love will fill him. There is nothing more precious than life and the love that comes with it. To have true unconditional love is so rare, what an example of that you are to all who know you and are following this blog! Thank you for so openly and honestly sharing this most difficult time in your life with all of us! I love you....
