40 DAYS
Chase gets 2 "ride passes" this weekend! Yeah!! We will most likely take him to the movies and home to snuggle in with us... I'm so excited to all be together.
Well!! Chase can say "Mom" and is working on so many other sounds and words. He can consistently nod and shake for yes no - or 1 or 2 on his hands - but we are pushing now for speech out of his mouth. A music therapist was just hired and she is amazing. Hpshe has been added to chase's schedule and he is humming and singing - she is alreadymakmg a huge difference with his progress.
One of the docs talked to me today and said that staff was "shocked" not only that he lived but his recovery. He truly is a miracle and I thank the Lord everyday for him. He is an amazing child and his laughter echoes through the hallways.
Chase passed his hearing test with "flying colors" today - he had to thumbs up when he heard a beep and he did without any issues. His right arm and hand is completely awake amd now we are just re-training functionality. His right leg is still "asleep" (as the therapists say) but it's waking up more and more.
Please pray for continued speech and for his right leg to wake up.
I pinch myself really that I get a second chance with him. We are on Day 40 in the hospital today and I am blown away by his progress already. I am so very proud of him.
Chase is still a solid Rancho 5/6 and we are hoping that he moves into a 6/7 next week ... I appreciate the continual prayers for progress and improvement. He has ridden the trike around the hallways twice amd is getting better needing min (minimum) assistance as opposed to maximum assurance from staff.
His nurses and therapists amaze me. They work so hard and their love and positivity just carries over into chase's heart. He is the life of the party - so not much has changed.
I just shake my head as I think to 40 days ago. WOW WOW WOW. He has come so far.
One of the cleaning ladies (who I just adore) loves on chase. She works extra hard on his room and calls him "beautiful boy" in spanish. Today, she looked me right in the eye and said "there are always angels around your son. He will be just fine. I know! I work here long time!". I burst into tears. I know that he has angels - he is loved as much in heaven as he is here. I'm grateful he gave this life a second chance.
Slow and steady,
Jen
Way to go Chase, keep up the good work, we are praying for you. I am trying to find a time to come visit you Jen, hopefully in the next week or so. Let me know if Chase would like Bryson to come visit him, if he is ready for it. I look forward to reading the blog updates and I am so happy that Chase is doing well
