Update #43

So, my mom is gone (sniff sniff)... Thank you so so much Mom for all of your hard work with Chaser. He made SO many strides while with my mom. She is such an amazing grandmother and her ability to teach left me in awe.

Here is what chase accomplished over the last 10 days with grandma:

* begginning to feed himself
* using his RIGHT arm! Chase's physical therapist said that his right arm is where his left arm was 2 weeks ago. His left arm is 75% under control
* his body is calm and he is so, so much more in control of his body
* he laughs his head off (continually - especially when he kicked grandma's cell phone out of her hand; if you even bring that up be just belly laughs)
* he is making noises - "mmmmm" "ahhhhhh" "uhhhh"
* he has graduated out of his full support wheel chair into a regular one
* we get to go on passes together (where we take chaser out of the hospital to spend time with us) - we went to Trolley Square and got Chase's favorite - FUDGE!! he shared with grandma
* he is sucking out of a straw and holding his drink
* he is practicing walk with a walker
* he can do a puzzle with both hands (grandma got him a cool wooden one from pottery barn kids at trolley square)

The thing that amazes me (that Justin pointed out) is chase's attitude. His body and voice aren't quite doing what he wants - and he just laughs at himself when he misses a high five, sticks his finger up his nose or kicks grandma's cell phone. He is such an example of someone with such amazing character - I'm so blessed to have such an amazing son.

His doctors and therapists continue to be amazed by his progress. He tries so hard and like I said, his attitude is astounding.

He loves his family and continues to be the life of the party. People are drawn to him and I can't count how many staff say (after working with chase) say that they think of him often throughout their day. he is so amazing and truly a leader.

He is so excited as he continues to progress. It's a miracle and blessing that he is my son still. I look at him and I SEE chaser. He looks like himself and just lights up a room. He is a light and love and an amazing example.

I am so so grateful that I was able to spend time with my husband and girlies. We curled hair, organized and ate yummy food while snuggling in to watch movies. I cant wait until chase is home and can join us - but we are soo grateful for primary childrens and the amazing staff that offers my son the support and help he needs right now. Everyday is something new. He shot baskets with his RIGHT hand today!!! I mean, miraculous. I have to pinch myself when I think it's only been a little over a month.

We continue to pray and thank the Lord for sparing his life and giving us all a 2nd chance with him. He is a gift and has already overcome more than I have in my lifetime. I can honestly say I would be scared and bratty if I was trapped in my body... And then there's chase, pushing himself - laughing - and spreading his infectious nature to all those he comes in contact with.

Thank you all so so much for your love, support and PRAYERS (and fasts). They continue to carry us - and anchor our family so that chase can continue his journey of healing. He is doing this - he is making the choice to work hard and have a wonderful attitude - he is only 9 years old. Amazing. Inspiring. I continue to be in awe and grateful.

Thank you all sooo much. I couldn't do this without you.

Slow and steady,

Jen

  2. He is truly a miracle and obviously working hard and doing his best every single day. Thank God he has the wonderful support of his loving family. It helps him in so many ways. Family is so important in rehabilitation recovery. One day soon, he will walk out of that hospital, turn to give a hug to his nurses and therapists and continue his recovery at home.
