This weekend was quite better than last. Last weekend, I had to cancel all of chase's visits because he was so stormy (sweating through 3 sets of sheets in 2 hours). This weekend - he belly laughed (hard) and worked so hard at his therapies this week, even going on the treadmill (with support... But wow!!)
My mom comes in tomorrow and I'm so stoked!! She is just the greatest. I remember one of her last days here; we were together in the PICU just before chaser was transferred. He was thrashing (storming) and we were holding down his thrashy body. I looked up at her and noticed we were both crying. Seeing chaser fight his little body has been one of the hardest things, but he is 9 - and amazing & fighting & in there!!! He's my son, only trapped.
His precious words will come as well as his movements. I feel so so blessed that his personality is the same... Because it doesn't get better than chase.
He had a full day today, including going to the playroom with his best buddy Zachary and little Brady. They have an extremely, extremely precious & natural bond with one another. Zach's mom - Emily - is my best friend & his dad is justin's business partner (& one if his closest friends ;). It's very comforting and special to see he friendship pass through the generations.
Chaser us now eating "mechanical soft." if I've said this already, I apologize. He gets all kinds of pastas, tacos (softened chips) & tons of other yummy food - there's a whole "mechanical soft" menu. He is doing amazing with eating!
Like I have said before, laughing comes before speaking 100% of the time. He tries sooo hard to speak and move his body - but he is a very hard worker & will get it! He's already come so far.
The right side of his body is waking up & it's where his left side was 2 weeks ago. He had a special slant that did the job for his arm & now they ordered one for his fingers - which need help extending (part of re-training).
All in all, we are so blessed that his precious brain is healing and that he continues to work so, so hard. We feel so blessed to have our precious boy. He is the best and just proves to me more and more every day how absolutely amazing he is.
Please continue to pray for speech & coordinated movement throughout his body. Four weeks ago we were just being transferred out of the PICU. Thank you for your continued prayers & support.
Slow & steady,
Jen
Thanks for the update! It's great to read of his progress. Continued prayers coming your way!
